Karnataka State Film Award

State level awards are sought by the people who have committed themselves to the development in a particular sector of the state and brought laurels with their contributions. South Indian film Industry is quite big with lots of movies made and seen by people. These movies are keenly followed by the viewers who are crazy for these productions. In South India, there are established film industries in four important languages, such as Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. Kannada movies are made in the state of Karnataka and there are actors and actresses as well as producers and directors who are common to all these industries. But, their recognition has been taken up from their contributions to a particular film industry.

About Karnataka State Film Award

Karnataka State Film award is one of the most prestigious awards in the state of Karnataka. In Kannada film language, these are supposedly the highest awards since it is recognised by the government of the state. It is to honour the talent and contributions towards South Indian Film Industry and Kannada film industry in particular.
Jury for the Karnataka State Film Award is formed by eminent personalities in the field of movies in the state as well as from other states. It is an annual event and the awards are announced by the Minister of Cultural Affairs and during the presentation ceremony, the Chief Minister of Karnataka presents these awards.

Awards

In Karnataka State Film Award, there are plenty of categories for which the awards are provided. Included under the category of creative awards are those for best actor, films, actresses, child actor, children film, regional film, director, supporting actor and actress, music director and playback singers. Besides, there are also the awards in the technical category where people working behind the camera are felicitated. These include cinematographer, lyricist, editor, audiographer, art direction, story, screenplay, dubbing artists and dialogue. Special Award announced within the Karnataka State Film Award is that of the Lifetime Contribution to Kannada Cinema. A few honorary awards are also given to eminent personalities under certain heads like Dr. Rajkumar Award, Dr. Vishnuvardhan Award and Puttanna Kanagal Award.

Since the beginning of the awards, many eminent film personalities of Kannada film industry have received the awards and many of them have scored it for more than once. In earlier days, Karnataka State Film Awards was also known by the name of Mysore State Film Awards. The last year when the awards were announced was in 2013 from the movies released in Kannada in 2012.
