Khorda district is located in the state of Orissa. It is located geographically between longitudes 85 degree 37'30"E and latitude 20 degree 11'N. The headquarters of the city is located in the city of Khorda. The place was originally referred to as Jajarsingh.

The district is located between 85 degree 37' 30" E longitudes and 19 degree 40' to 20 degree 25' N longitudes. The area was actually the dwelling place for the tribes of the shabara race. Now these tribes are found in very less numbers across the district.

The land of the district can be classified as two types, Deltaic Alluvial Subregion and the Laterite subregion. Kuakhai, bhargavi, Budunai, Daya, Kusabhadra, malaguni, Rana and Kusumi rivers are the chief sources for water in the district.

Atri, Balipatna, balugaon, Banpur, Banamalipur Narangar, Nandankanan etc are the various places of tourist importance in the district. The chilika Lake is the major tourist attraction. It is the largest lake of brackish waters in Asia. The lake has many small islands that are hosts for special tourist attractions and wildlife too.

Stone carving in the district is a major art. The Lingaraja temple is also one of the many famous cultural tourism sites in the district.
