There are famous mosques throughout the world, among which there are wonderful mosques situated in India, constructed and established at various points of time, some of them being famous mosques in India by virtue of their architectural eminence, five of them are historically great.
Jama Masjid located at New Delhi, which was built in 1656 AD by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, the entire construction being done with white marble and sandstone, architecturally having an unique combination of Hindu and Islamic styles, which is also known as Masjjid-I-Jahanuma, to mean that it is a mosque commanding the view of the world, with its courtyard having space to accommodate as many as 25000 devotees at a time, with three arched gateways and a wide staircase, is one of the famous mosques in India.
Cheraman Juma Masjd is another among famous mosques in India, situated in Kodungalloor, Kerala, which is known to have been the first ever constructed mosques in India, around 629 AD, being unique with a blend of traditional Kerala architecture and Arabian arts, with magnificent wood work, besides addition of brass lamps fitted to the structure, which is normally a Hindu practice, this is one of the famous mosques in India where Bakrid and Ramadan celebrations are held in a grand manner.

Sheikh Salim Chishti is another among the five famous mosques in India, located at Fatehpur Sikri near Agra, is acquiring its importance because of the finest Mughal architecture with which it has been constructed, its tomb having been the spot where the Sufi saint Sheikh Salim Chishti had been doing his meditation.
