Indian Agencies In India
India’s home administration and governance are well organized and monitored, by various Ministries starting with Prime Minister’s Office, through a number of Ministerial administrative set ups, in the form of Indian agencies for different functions in the ministry, with departments, attached offices, Boards, Commissions, autonomous bodies, councils, bureaus, public sector undertakings and a few other forms of organizations, that are executing the policy decisions taken in the Ministry, either through an Act of Parliament or through Parliamentary resolutions, notifications, Court directives concerning the Ministerial responsibilities and these agencies operate on either time bound one time activities or perennial jobs of routine nature.
Each of these agencies, have committed projects, the progress and completion of which are to be presented to the concerned Ministry, sometimes periodically, enabling them to present it to the Parliament in right time, when the Nation will be kept informed how well the country’s progress and conduct are monitored.
For example, Prime Minister’s Office works through important agencies such as National Security Council, Trade and economic Relations Committee, taking care of the respective area of responsibilities, Ministry of Home affairs working through departments functioning under agencies of Indian Police Service, Intelligence Bureau and Central Reserve Police Force, both these Ministerial groups functioning in coordination, the National security Council’s Joint Intelligence Committee having good linkage with various Indian agencies functioning under the department of Internal Security functioning under the Ministry of Home affairs.
Some of the Indian Government agencies, function as autonomous bodies, such as Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) which works independently, although reporting to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, also working with good collaboration with another agency in the Ministry of Finance, while making its own decisions within the Policy directives.
Ministry of Defense operates with three primary agencies, namely Indian Army, Indian Air Force and Indian Navy, ever vibrant with activities of intelligence and execution of day to day decisions, while the Ministry of Culture works with a different kind of agencies, such as Archaeological Survey of India, National Library of India and the Asiatic Society, some of them doing office and research functions, whereas some of them are Autonomous bodies attending to focused purposes.
Ministry of Consumer affairs has different kind of Indian agencies, such as Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) which is a quality assurance and certifying agency, Food Corporation of India, a monitoring agency, whereas National Sugar Institute is a research agency, all of them functioning under separate Directorates.
In short, the various functions of Indian Government are discharged through Indian Agencies in India which are of different constitutions befitting the requirements.
