National Institute Of Rural Development
National Institute of Rural Development, which is acronymed as NIRD, is an autonomous central Government organisation under the support of Ministry of Rural Development, responsible for providing an enriching quality to the poor in India, by taking steps to satisfy their primary needs and create opportunities of employment of a big scale by the dint of decentralised planning.
The aim of NIRD is to facilitate development in the rural areas with aggressive initiates under the nongovernmental and government organisations. This is the highest body in India, which is engages in training, action research, research and functions as consultant in the rural area development.

Our Mission
The mission of National Institute of Rural Development is to focus on analysis and examination of various factors, which help in the improvement of social and economic well being of people in rural backgrounds, with special attention to the poor and groups which are disadvantaged, by means of action research, research and consultation. Another mission aim is to help in the development of rural areas with more focus an importance to the poor in the rural areas, by increasing their skills, knowledge and the behaviour of officials involved in rural development, as well as other people who are involved in the conduct of training, seminars and workshops.
Infrastructure Facilities
NIRD is situated in a campus that spans about 42 hectares, at a distance of about 12 kms from Hyderabad. This has been made into a centre of world class, mainly for research and training in rural development works. There is presence of all the facilities required for participants and trainees coming from india as well as outside.
Classrooms are well equipped with presence of medical centre, guest houses, outdoor and indoor games facilities and all have been well arranged for the care of health and other needs of recreation for the participants. There is also a gymnasium for different exercises.
Modern labs for computers, communication, email, wi-fi, internet, variety of software and hardware and many other IT facilities have been provided so that the trainees can utilise these in each centre.
Right dissemination of information on training and research is being taken up by publishing journals of Rural Development, highlights of research and recommendations for various seminars and periodic reports, research protocols, monographs and various papers from time to time. More than 200 papers have been put forth till now.
Training
The NIRD is supposed to be a school where managers can get educated about rural development through more than 150 programs, and an annual turnover of about 3000 participants, where they are sensitised about policy making. Participants comprise of representatives who are elected by the people, new recruit civil servants, professionals of media and policy makers. Government functionaries are also trained, with people coming from various banking organisations and community based bodies from outside india.
Since two decades now, the institute has been giving training to participants from various countries every year. Trainings are in the fields of industries in rural set ups, income generation for women from villages, economic development which is sustainable and decentralised planning. Each program is having participations of about 25 to 30 people from variety of locations.
