Scientific research lies of the foundation of overall technological, economic and social development in any country. When India achieved independence in 1947, one of the major crises it faced was the lack of any serious foundation to promote science and research. While individual researchers worked in various educational institutions the overall policy direction and institutional support was missing. This is at this point the country felt the need of an organization that could monitor the field of research and development in this fledgling nation and that is how the National Research Development Corporation was born.
The National Research Development Corporationwas established as a Public Sector organization functioning under Ministry of Science & Technology of the Government of India. It came into existence in 1953 under the Indian Companies Act as a section 25 company.
