Petroleum & Explosives Safety Organisation
The Organisation of Petroleum and Explosives Safety was previously called Department of Explosives and is headquartered at Nagpur. In September 1998 it has completed its hundred years of existence. It is controlled by the Ministry of Commerce and Department of Industrial Policy and is headed by the Chief Controller of Explosives.
The activities of the organisation are governed by the Inflammable Substances Act and it is responsible for the safety of the public and its property from fire and associated explosive hazards.
Some of its Important Functions and Responsibilities are:
- To accord approval for the manufacturing of LPG regulators, valves and cylinders and approve their designs
- To grant licences to CNG stations and gas filling plants
- To grant licences for the premises where the explosives are stored
- To grant licences for the LPG cylinders and their accessories
- To grant permission for the filling of LPG cylinders
- To grant recognition for establishment of testing stations
- To frame norms for the design and manufacturing of the cylinders and their accessories
