Amethi is a nagar panchayat and town in the district of Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh. It lies on the Raebareli-Amethi-Sultanpur road at about 40 km south-west Sultanpur. It is well connected to all major cities of the state as well as North East India via roads the Indian railways. In fact, Amethi has several direct trains connecting important Indian cities like Lucknow, Kanpur, Delhi, Haridwar, Allahabad, Delhi, Varanasi, Allahahad, Mumbai, Bengaluru etc. There are number of buses from Uttar Pradesh State Transport Corporation plying from Amethi to various parts of the state and beyond. Besides, there are a couple of national highways that pass through the town.

Amethi is also an education hub in this region of Uttar Pradesh and has its own Indian Institute of Technology. It also boasts of the prestigious Rajarshi rananjay Post Graduate College. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, the national organization entrusted with the manufacture of defence for the Indian Air Force, has set up its avionics division in the town. Amethi also has a unity of the Indo Gulf Fertilisers.
