Shahjahanpur established in 1813 by the Britsh Government is one of the historical district which is located in South Eastern Rohilkhand Division. Before the creation it was a part of the Bareilly Division. Now it is a headqurter with Powayan, Tihar, Sadar and Jalalabad as its Tehsils. The districts that adjoin Shahjahanpur are Bareilly, Lakhimpur Kheri, Badaun, Farrukhabad, Hardoi and Pilibhit. Shahjahanpur is spread within an area of 4575 metres2. The main rivers flowing are the Garrah, the Ramganga and the Gomti. The source of irrigation is from this river water.The district ia a agriculture based area. Wheat, gram, millets and potatoes are majorly grown here.

Shahajahanpur is famous for its carpet industry or Kalin Udyog and jewelly market. The district has a major clothing factory for defence forces known as Ordnance Clothing Factory. The Shahjahanpur club membership was considered as very exclusive memberships in previous days.

The history proves that many acts of freedom were happened here. The British Tresury at Kakori station. It is the birthplace of many freedom fighters such as Pandit Ram Prasad Bismil, Ashfaqullah Khan, Thakur Roshan singh and many more. Thus the district is also known as Shaheedon ki Nagri. The hindi novelist and playwriter Madan Lal Verma was also born here.
