It is considered one of the holiest cities of India. It original name was Prayaga and is the second oldest city in India. It is located at a distance of 205 km from Lucknow, the state capital. This city also enjoys the rank of 130th in terms of fastest growth in the world. This city is also one of the four major sites of the pilgrimage of Hindus. Multiple government offices including that of state as well central are located in this religious city. There exist Allahabad University, which is the fourth oldest in India. The Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Sikhs and Christians are 86.81%, 12.72%, 0.04%, 0.13% and 0.18% respectively. The climate of this city is humid subtropical. The lowest temperature ever recorded here was -2C and the highest was 48 C. The area of this city is classified into three parts, i.e. old city, newer city and outer growth areas. Every year, thousand pilgrims come to take part in this festival with full gaiety and enthusiasm.
