Tiruvallur is a temple town & 1st grade municipality in Tiruvallur district in Tamil Nadu. It is situated on the banks of Cooum river, which is about 42 km away from Chennai District . The place is the managerial head office of district Tiruvallur. It consists of 4 revenue villages namely Periakuppam, Thiruvallur, Pungathur ,and Perumpakkam . It is also divided into 27 wards. It is very popular for the Veera Raghavar temple which lies among the 108 holy memorials of Vaishnavites. A pond is situated close to this temple, in this place tank festival is detained. Lord Siva temple is also located, near this holy place. The 40 feet elevated hunaman temple named as Viswaroopa Panchamukha , is also located here ,in whichthe Murti is made of a single green sandstone stone. Its name means "Tiruvallur" , comes from Tamil verdict "tiru evvull" meaning, "Tiru" - god, "evvull" The place where I sleep. The literally means of this is , a place or town where, the god, Veera Raghavar inquired the saint for the consign to sleep for hours of darkness .Poondi reservoir is also cited here from where people residing here draw drinking water and is about 9 km away from this town. It is rich in industry.
