A small village in Andhra Pradesh, Makkuva comes under the district of Vizianagaram. Located near Salur, this district has a total of 54 revenue villages and 21 village panchayats. It is geographically elevated at an altitude of 404 ft or 123 mtr. Telugu is a major language that is spoken here, which is the main language of whole Andhra Pradesh as well. It should also be noted that this village has a literacy rate below the national average. National Average literacy rate is 59.5% where as it has average literacy rate of 48%. It is gets worst when comes down to female literacy rate of 35% as compared to the 61% for males. The total population, when last documented in the year 2007, was around 60,000 including 33,000 of males and rests are the females.

This village is considered a place of minor pilgrimages with the presence of some of the well known temples. They are 3 Ramalayam Temples, Majji Gouwri and Ayyappa Temples. The three Ramalayam Temples are situated in Telaga Street, the other one near Makkuva Post office and the last one in the Market Centre. These temples have, in a way, given the identity to the Makkuva Mandal and worshipping is a way of life here.
