The town of Nizampatnam is important from the import/export point of view as it a seaport town in the southern part India in Andhra Pradesh. It lies in the delta region of the Krishna River in the Guntur District. When the Dutch had a rule over India, they used it as a port for trading from 1608 to 1668.

Nizampatnam is still in use for the trading purposes. The development is progress for a moderate size of port, simple in structure which will help as a terminal for intermodal containers, bulk cargos and liquefied petroleum gas (or LPG).because of its location in the delta region of the river Krishna, it is a multi-purpose zone for production of power station which runs on the tidal energy, a new urea manufacturing factory is proposed to be set up in coming years. All this is possible due to the unique location of the port and ease of harnessing the bank resources.

The mandal of which Nizampatnam is a ppart of constitute of fifteen mandals, as per the division of land was done on January 14 1987. The district has a historical background too as it was a birth place for the famous freedom fighter and social reformer Duggirala Gopala Krishnaiah from the Penuganchiprolu village in Krishna District.
