The district of Guntur, situated along the eastern coast of the Bay of Bengal, lies in the state of Andhra Pradesh. This district is a major hub for learning.

The original name for the district of Guntur was Garthapuri. There was mention of the caves of Guthikonda and Sitanagaram during Dwapara-Yuga and Treta Yuga. Though these are not authenticated facts still local people has faith in the traditions of Vedas. There is a proof that the district of Guntur is a habitat of people of Paleolithic age and is said that one of the oldest human beings of India stayed in this region.

To add to this belief, it can be added that Sala kings ruled this part throughout the 5th century BC. The initial orientation to the district of Guntur arrives from the Idern plates of the famous Ammaraja.

Krishna River guards the north-east and east most frontier of the district of Guntur, and separates the Guntur District from that of the Krishna District. On the south eastern border of the district lies Bay of Bengal, Prakasam District covers the southern portion. West side of Guntur is surrounded by Mahbubnagar District and Nalgonda district is situated on the north west side.
