The town of Unnao is considered to be the headquarters of the Unnao district situated in the state of Uttar Pradesh and it is located just in between Kanpur and Lucknow. The town has an astonishing history and it has been created by Godo Singh who was a Chauhan Rajput way back in the 12th century, he then handed over the town to the rulers of Kannauj .After the First World War the British East India Company took control over the town due to its abundant natural resources.

According to the latest census, Unnao had a population of 144.917, out of which 53% constitute the male population and the remaining 47% are females. Its literacy rate is 68% out of which the male literacy rate is72 % and female literacy rate is 63%. Tanning is the major population of the people. Unnao has a lot of schools and colleges and it serves as an educational destination for most of the people living in many villages in and around the Unnao district. Unnao is well connected to major cities by both rail and road. National highway 25 passes through Unnao district. Daily trains connect Unnao with various major cities of India.
