Mahoba is one of the districts of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Mahoba is a town and district headquarters of Mahoba district. The district covers an area of 2884 square kilometres. According to a population census conducted in the year 2011, the total population of Mahoba district was 8,76,055 and is also reported to be the least populated district of the state of Uttar Pradesh. Previously this district was a part of erstwhile Hamirpur district in Uttar Pradesh.It was only on February 2012 this district was established. In the year 2006, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj named Mahoba as one of the countrys 250 most backward districts. This is one of the 34 districts in Uttar Pradesh which receives some funds from the Backward Grants Fund Programme that was introduced by the Government.

Mahoba is situated around 140 kilometres from Jhansi and is very much associated with Chandela kings who ruled the Bundelkhand between the 9th and the 11th centuries. The town is known for its betel leaf cultivation and the granite rocks. There are many places of historical and a lot of archaeological importance and they are worth visiting once you visit this place.
