Agra city is situated on the river banks of Yamuna in the northern part of Uttar Pradesh state in India. The city is located at 363 kms towards the west of New Delhi, capital of India and 200 kms from Lucknow, the state capital of Uttar Pradesh. As per 2010 census, the city is considered as one of the most populous cities of India and has a population of 1,686,976. The city is also been named as 20th most polluted cities in the world as more than 80% of the citys sewage is drowned into the river Yamuna. Agra is been observed as the administrative district with its headquarters at Agra city. Despite the ill effects of population and pollution in this city, it still manages to be one of the major tourist destinations from around the world and manages to be named as one of the Seven Wonders of the World for Taj Mahal. The Agra city is surrounded by many astonishing monuments from the Mughal era and most notably, the Taj Mahal, Agra fort and Fatehpur Sikri. All three sites have been listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites. Agra has a semi-arid type of climate bordering the state with some sort of humid subtropical type of climate. Taj Mahal was constructed by the orders of Shah Jahan, the emperor who ruled from Agra in the loving memory of his favourite wife Mumtaz Mahal.
