Few words about Railway Recruitment Board in India:
For recruitment in North Western Railway, a Service commission including a Chairman with two members was setup to choose the subordinate staff, first time in July 1942. The recruitment staff was further analyzed and expanded in the year 1945 in the cities Lucknow, Madras, Bombay and Calcutta under the supervision of Railway Board. The commission set up by the board was, asked to perform two basic functions; one was selecting the class III staff and the second was to study the statements made by subordinate staff on punitive issues and report accordingly to the General Managers giving them tender opinion.
Indian Railway Enquiry Committee again reviewed the work done by these commissions in year 1948. Board members decided to withdraw the work of issues from commission before making them permanent, just to reduce the burden from them. After the decision, the Chairman of Bombay Service was restricted to focus on supervision of commissions of cities Lucknow, Calcutta ant the Madras. Indian railways were charged with a ban in 1949 due to some financial limitations, this resulted in reduction of the score of commission and Bombay commission was made one final centralized commission. With the passage of time financial conditions of Indian Railways got better and in year 1953-54 four commissions were set up in Bombay, Madras along with the cities Calcutta and Allahabad. The recruitment procedure was boosted in 1956, by handing it to the constitution department of Indian Railway service from Estimate committee. In 1973, Muzaffarpur was given the duty of extra commission, for practicing the recruitment from areas which, are under developed, and to sort out the needs of North Eastern wing of Railway. The same year recorded advancement in railways, when Calcutta’s Service commission was extended to Ranchi by opening branch office over there. Secundrabad was added to the list of service commission in 1978 to cover services of south central wing of Railway after its formation. Meanwhile recruitment committee of NF Railway carried on the duties of recruiting the staff for their own needs. Major development was done in 1978, when a complete service commission was made with Head Quarters in Guwahati. In 1980, one more Service commission came into existence in Bangalore, which handled the requirements of candidates of far-flung and backward areas of Karnataka State. Danapur was made the service commission in 1981.
Year 1983 gave rise to seven new commissions, which included Ajmer, Bhopal along with cities like Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad and, Jammu and Srinagar. Sitting offices were made at Leh and Trivandrum. Malda along with Gorakhpur were also added to the tally of service commissions in 1984. For scheduled tribes government made full-fledged commission in the city of Ranchi to entertain their needs.
