Erode is a municipal corporation & the headquarters of Erode district in Tamil Nadu.It is situated in the middle of the South Indian Peninsula. It is an important city in Kongu Nadu. It is well known for powerloom , handloom textile products & readymade garments. Therefore it is also called the Loom City of India or else Tex valley of India. Products such as bed spreads , cotton sarees, lungies, carpets, dhotis, towels and printed fabrics are marketed here in large quantities and at the time festivals a lot of profit is made by cloth traders. It has also been nicknamed as Turmeric city and  Textile city. Hence textile is its major business. It is administrated by Erode Municipal Corporation. It has one Parliamentary constituency.Industries that do well in early days in & around Erode area were carpet manufacturing and handloom weaving. The arrival of modern era has changed these industries to a level & the powerloom weaving is slowly substituting it. Fabrics, like rugs, manufactured here are famous throughout India and are also being exported.

The industries that are situated here belong to mainly allied trades and oil & rice mills, such as automobiles , power looms and engineering works.
