Tamil Nadu Goripalayam Mosque
Goripalayam is an integral part of Madhurai. The Goripalayam Mosque is a popular Masjid where Muslims do come to offer their prayers to God. This historic mosque contains two tombs of the Sultans of Delhi. The mosque is most famous for its large structure and beautiful inscriptions on its walls.
History
It is said that this monument was built by Thirumalai Nayak for his loyal subjects. Goripalayam is derived from a word Gor of Persian origin. Gor means grave. Two famous Sultans of Islam are buried here. Hazrat Sulthan Alauddin Badusha and Hazrat Sulthan Shamsuddin Badhusha rest peacefully in their green tombs facing a peaceful river.
Architecture
The giant dome is well embellished stands 20ft tall and almost 70ft in diameter. This dome was made form a single block of stone which happened to be imported from Azhaga Hills. The Maqbara premises are adorned with Tamil inscriptions. It is these inscriptions will reassure the presence of this Dargah since way back in the 13th century. The Goripalayam Dargah can be seen from the nearby A.V. Bridge. It has been built is such a way that it faces the northern side of the river Vaigai.
