Katra Masjid
The sacred Islamic mosque Katra Masjid is situated at Murshidabad city in the Indian state of West Bengal. The famous Katra Masjid is not only an Islamic mosque but also a tomb of Murshid quli Khan, Nawab of Bengal. This Islamic mosque is situated at the northern eastern part of the town of Murshidabad. The mosque is not only known for its Islamic teaching but also for Murshid Khan’s tomb who was buried under the mosque’s staircase. The striking features of this mosque are two big corner towers that having some loopholes especially for musketry. Presently this Islamic mosque is protected and maintained by Indian archaeological survey department and West Bengal state government.
History
The renowned Islamic mosque Katra Masjid is situated at Murshidabad city in the Indian state of West Bengal. The mosque not only a centre for Islamic learning but it also has Murshid quli Khan’s tomb within the premise of the mosque. When Nawab of Bengal, Murshid Kahn was going to die he expressed his wish to build his sacred tomb just near to a mosque. After that he appointed Murad Farash Khan, an architect to construct mosque as well as his tomb. So the Katra Masjid was constructed during the 1723-24 AD. The sacred Islamic mosque is known for its Arabic inscription that can be found of its walls. The inscription in the mosque shows its constructed date. It is one of the protected monuments of India.
Architecture
Katra Masjid stands on an important square plinth. This Islamic mosque is a brick made structure as well as surrounded by domed cells of double storied. It was built for people who recite sacred Quran and it is also known as Madrasa. Moreover, all the rooms in the mosque have the capacity of 700 readers of Quran. Moreover, just before the rooms’ area four tall Minars stand at each four corners. The two Minars or towers before of the Masjid are about 70 feet tall and 25 feet broad.

Weather and Time to Visit
Murshidabad city has changeable climate conditions. It means during summers temperature rises to 40 degree Celsius while in winters it can be drop down to 20 to 7 degree Celsius. However, monsoon in the city offers little heavy rainfalls. So the best time to visit at Katra Masjid or Mosque is from the month of October to March.
