Jamia Masjid Srinagar
Jamia Masjid situated in Srinagar, J&K, is the most sacred place for Muslim and situated in providential Indian Administered Kashmir. This eloquent Mosque is now situated at the middle of Nowata, one of the oldest cities of Srinagar. Built by Sultan Sikandar in 1400 AD it has been a great religious space for Muslims in Srinagar. Jamia Masjid, Srinagar includes the tradition of Indo-Faracenac architecture which makes it more beautiful and attractive. History
Jamia masjid was built by the great ruler Sultan Sikandar in the 14th century. Later it was enlarged by his son Zain-ul-Abidin. Besides showing traditional architecture the mosque excellently shows the cross culture fertilization of Kashmir. Thrice being destroyed by fire was every time renovated. The latest renovation was done during the reign of Maharaja Pratap Singh.
Architecture
Though, Jamia masjid has a traditional Architecture of Indo-Faracanec and cross culture fertilization of culture of Kashmir. Yet it does not depict the pure Islamic style. Jamia masjid consists of pyramid shaped tall towers and adorns pagoda style in its architecture. Surrounded by courtyard jamia Masjid, consists of 370 standing pillars, each and every pillar being made of a single trunk of Deodar wood. The mosque covers an area of 384 ft*381 ft. this magnanimous Jamia Masjid has enough space to provide room to more than 30,000 people at the same time offering their prayer. The Masjid is constructed in a Mughal Garden style with two broad paths giving the symbol of the best architectures of that period. In addition, the Jamia Masjid tolerated the odds of the course of time still standing with pride giving example of vitality and best architecture.
How To Reach
By Air
The Srinagar airport being 14 km from the city, different airlines such as Jet airways, Kingfisher airways, Spice jet, Indian Airlines, Air Deccan etc provides travelling facilities from Delhi and Mumbai to Srinagar respectively. A taxi or a rented car on arrival will be able to meet you to city centre from airport.
By Rail
The new open Udhampur railways station lays 60 km to the North of Jammu. It is now being occasional serves as the nearest railway station to Srinagar city. Even the old Jammu Tawai railway station, 293 km from Srinagar is also well connected to rest part of the city and also to other cities including Delhi, Chennai, Trivandrum, Pune, Mumbai and Bangalore respectively. A 12 hrs journey is to be made in a rented car or Taxi from Jammu.
By Road
Private Coaches and taxis are available from Jammu Tawai to Srinagar, which is being linked to the other cities by National Highway 1A (NH 1A). The Jammu & Kashmir State Transport Corporation (J&KSTC) provides comfortable buses from Jammu for other cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore etc as well as intercity. The Jammu Srinagar Road buses moves through majestic mountain areas and stretched out fields lined with trees on both sides.
Getting Around Srinagar
Private cars are available for local travel and excursion in the nearby area. Rented car being chasseurs driven available too. Self driven vehicles are not to be taken. Auto rickshaw can also be hired for easy access to the city root. Minibuses serve the modem means of intercity transport.
