The Ancient Value of Deoria

The name Deoria is derived from Deopuria or Devaranya. The land of the district of Deoria was once a very thriving part of ancient Kosala kingdom which was one of the prime locations of ancient Aryan culture. The archaeological excavations of the places has dug out many ancient remains of that time such as statues, coins as well as temples and Buddhist Maths which show that once there was a very developed and organised civilisation existed in ancient times.

It is also have a connection with the period of Ramayana when the king of Ayodhya Lord Rama made his son Kusha the king of Kushawati or present day Kushinagar, a nearby district.

The Modern Deoria

The modern Deoria district was carved out from Gorakhpur district in 1946. There are many temples of Lord Shiva such as Somnath temples. Besides these, there is another temple of Goddess Durga, known Devrahi temple. Gayatri mandir and Balaji mandir are other famous temples in the region.

In addition to the ancient value, the district of Deoria has many technical institutes and degree colleges such as Baba Raghav Das P.G. College, Mahila P.G. College, ITI Deoria, Govt. Polytechnique College etc, to name a few.

In a nutshell, the district of Deoria has an area of 2535squire kilometre and a population of nearly 2.7 million with a sex ratio (M/F) of 1000: 1013.
