Jamui was established as a proper district in 1991 after being separated from Munger and now it is a very well known city of Bihar state in India. Its existence is believed from the very ancient time of Mahabharata war and its great relation with Jain religion is also proved from the past to present through many historical documents. There are two stories related to the name of this place in which first story specifies that word Jamui is taken from Jambhiya Gram which is related to Vardhaman Mahavir for attaining Omniscience and the other story specifies that the word Jamui is derived from Jambuwani. The area covered by the city is 3122.80 kilometer square and the total population according to census 2001 is 66797. The main languages of this place are Hindi and Maithili. The city is properly connected with a remaining part of country through road network and through railway it is connected from Mallepur station which is also known as Jamui station. The airports near to this place are Gaya International Airport which is at the distance of 136 kilometers and Jayaprakash Naryan International Airport, Patna which is at the distance of approximate 161 kilometers. The district is having very rich reserves of iron-ores, gold, coal etc which are still untapped. The places related to Jainism are there in proper number in Jamui. The famous places of this city are Kali Mandir, Parneshwar Mandir, Gidheshwar Temple, Kshatriya Kund Gram, Jain Mandir and Hazrat Khan Gaji Dargah as well as Amrath Shareef.
