Once governed by the Maratha rulers, Jalaun is one of the most popular districts located in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Unfortunately, it is a backward district. The headquarters of this district are located at Jalaun Town while the directorial headquarter lies at Orai. There are a few important towns located within the Jalaun district area namely Kalpi, Konch and Madhogarh. The district location ranges with Bundelkhand, and is surrounded by the River Yamuna in the north direction, the river Pahuj in the west and the River Betwa in the southern direction. The trespassed area covers a number of villages and hamlets. Farming is extensively done throughout the three rivers. Some other districts are flanked together with Jalaun district. For example, the districts of Kanpur and Etawah are located in the north along the Yamuna river, the Hamirpur District in the southeast cum east and Jhansi district in the southeast and also Bhind District Madhya Pradesh (or MP) in the west cross the Pahuj.

Jalaun has gone through extreme famine problems over the past four years. There has been no adequate rainfall here over the period but it has fallen below from the standard 800mm to 399mm!

As per the 2011 census, Jalaun district featured a population of 1,670,718, approximately tantamount to the location of Guinea-Bissau or the Idaho, the US state. Concerning the population density, the district is a home to 366 residents per square km (950 /sq mi). The literacy ratio in Jalaun is 75.16% while sex ratio is 865 females over 1000 males.
