It is one of the districts of Uttar Pradesh state. Banda is an integral part of Chitrakoot division. This district is well known for jewellery and Shajar stone. Banda is also famous for historical buildings like Khajuraho, Kalinjar etc. As per Indian census of 2011, the population of this district was 1,799,541. The density of population is 404 people per kilometer square. The sex ratio of Banda is 863 females per 1000 males. The literacy rate of this district is 68.11%. The chief language which is spoken in Banda is Bundeli which is somewhat similar to Hindi language. Banda is comprises of four tehsils. They are Atarra, Banda, Baberu and Naraini. Kalinjar. Mahotsava is the major festival of this district. This festival is celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm for promotion of Kalinjar Fort's Heritage and Tourism. The communities of Banda include Bundelas, Kshatriyas, Chandelas, Chandrauls, Patels etc. The main occupation of this district is agriculture. The chief items of agriculture include wheat, vegetables and rice. In the year 2006, the ministry of panchayati raj declared this district as countrys 250 in terms of backwardness. It is counted among 34th districts of Uttar Pradesh, which are presently being funded by Backward Regions Grant Fund.
