Parbhani district covers an area of six thousand five hundred and eleven square kilometers. The Lok Sabha constituency of the district is located at Parbhani. The district has four assembly seats.

The present territory of Parbani district was partitioned during 1596 to 1724 between the sarkars of Washim and Pathri. In the year 1956 reorganization took place where Parbhani and other Marathwada districts were included in the state of Bombay. In the year 1960, the state of Maharashtra was established and the district of Parbhani was included a part of it.

The hills of the district are portions of Ajanta Hill that goes through the Jintur Tahsil. The Balaghat hills are located on the southern portion of the Parbhani district. From the level of sea The district is three hundred and fifty seven meters above the sea level.
