Sultanpur is a municipal board and town of Sultanpur district in Uttar Pradesh. Because of its geographically centered location, the town is the administrative headquarters of the district. Its in fact an ancient town thats situated on the bank of the Gomati river at the south east of the state capital Lucknow. Sultanpur town is midway between Lucknow and Varanasi.

The town, for long, was a centre of Buddhist and Hindu culture, it fell to Muslim occupation during the 12th century. The town was fully destroyed during the Revolt of 1857.

Major points of attraction o the town include the Christ Church and the Victoria Manzil. The Chimanlal Park can be also visited.

The town is well connected by roads and railways to all major cities of the country. Theres also an airport 5 km at Amhat. The state highway passing through Sultanpur connects to Allahabad and Faizabad. The latter is the divisional headquarters. Local state transport buses as also local taxis are frequently available.

Direct mail and express train services are available from Sultanpur, a junction station, to Delhi, Mumbai and Howrah as well as other neighbouring states. Passenger states connect the town to nearby districts.
