Mathura is one of the renowned cities in Uttar Pradesh which is located in the north Indian part of India. It is situated at around approximately 50 km north of Agra which is famous for the presence of Taj Mahal. The distance of Mathura is 145 km south-east of Delhi and 11 km from Vrindavan which is a holy place of the Hindus. During the ancient times, Mathura was an economic hub which was located in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The fast expanding city has a population of 25 lacs which is a huge population. Mathura was also the birthplace of Lord Krishna. The Keshav Dev Temple was built in ancient times at Mathura which is still a very famous tourist destination among Indian and foreign travellers.

Mathura is considered to be one of the seven most holy places of Hindus and the holiest being Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh itself. Mathura is situated at an average elevation of 174 metres. According to a population census which was conducted in the year 2011, the total population of Mathura was surveyed to be 2,541,894 which is indeed huge. This is one of the most populated cities of Uttar Pradesh. The males constitute the 54% of the total population whereas the rest 46% are females. Mathura was recorded to have an average literacy of 72.65% which is lower than the present national average of 74.04%.
