Bidar is a tehsil in the district of the same name in Karnataka State. Bidar is a city that houses the administrative offices of the tehsil and also the district. Bidar city and the areas of the tehsil and district are historical regions ruled by the Chalukyas followed by Kalachuris, Yadavas of Devagiri, Kakatiyas of Warangal and then by the Muslim Kings; Allaudin Khilji and M. BinTughlaq and the Moghul King Aurangzeb included the province in his Deccan territories. There are many rivers flowing through the province, yet the tehsil is considered dry as the annual rainfall is not consistent. There are deposits of minerals in the region and the most common minerals mined are Bauxite for aluminium, Kaolin and Red Ochre. |
