Malappuram, which also means ‘On top of the hills’ in Malayalam, the local language of Kerala, took its birth in the year 1969. The district is surrounded by the Nilgiris to the East and the Arabian Sea to the West. It has been established amidst hills, rivers and coconut plantations across the sea-coast that creates breath-taking scenery. Malappuram city is located in the heart of the state of Kerala, covered by mountains and several rivers. One of the major rivers that flow through the city is KadalundiPuzha.

As far as economy of Malappuram is concerned, it has been observed that most of the migrants and gulf- country returned remit some investment in this district in the field of agriculture. The trade community also has a strong influence in this region. For education, the Kerala government has shown greater concern towards the people and established many schools and colleges.
