Belgaum, is situated to the west of Karnataka, bordering Maharashtra and Goa. The city of Belgaum is the fourth largest municipal corporation in Karnataka. The history of Belgaum dates back to 400 BC. During the 12 century, the Ratta dynasty had built the present form of Belgaum. 14 century was the invasion of the Khiljis from Delhi who defeated the Yadavas, who were ruling Belgaum at that time. Belgaum had been under many rulers from the 15th till the province was annexed by the British in the 1818.

The population of Belgaum according to the 2011 census is 4,778, 439, out of which 51% are males and the rest of the 49% are females. The mean literacy rate is 78%. The popular languages of Belgaum are Marathi, Kannada and Urdu. As the place borders Maharashtra and Goa, a blend of Marathi, Goan and Kannada cultures can be observed.

Belgaum is a commercial district with exports as large as the Bangalore itself. Rich deposits of Bauxite and Uranium are found in the nearby places in Belgaum, making it an industrial hub as well. Sugar industries dominate the industries in Belgaum, which have earned the name Belgaum, the sugar bowl of Karnataka.

There are some waterfalls such as Vajrapoha Falls, Godchanmalki Falls, Gokak Falls, Dudhsagar Falls, etc attract tourists which are 20- 100 kms from Belgaum.
