Allahabad Bank
Founded in the year 1865, Allahabad Bank is one of the major nationalized banks of India having its corporate office in the metropolitan city of Kolkata. This bank serves the Indian populace with its 2500 branches spread in various Indian states and Union Territories today. International operation of Allahabad Bank has been made possible through branch in Hong Kong and a Shenzen based extension counter.
A truly Indian bank now, Allahabad Bank was the brainchild of few Europeans who had an idea for its foundation. Today this bank has recognition of being an oldest joint stock Indian bank. Allahabad Bank wad been acquired by P&O Banking Corporation in 1920. Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China acquired P&O Bank in 1927 but it ensured that Allahabad Bank remains completely autonomous entity hence that acquisition didn’t impact much.
The post independent Indian government initiated the bank nationalization process for economic reforms and included Allahabad Bank in the list of 13 other banks operating then. This bank was finally nationalized on 19 July 1969.
