Information About Delhi High Court -
Established as the High Court of Judicature at Lahore on 21 March 1919, with jurisdiction over the provinces of Punjab and Delhi, the High Court was then called as the High Court of Punjab. After partition it became the High Court for the territory of "East Punjab" with effect from 15 August 1947.
The High Court of East Punjab functioned from Shimla but was later shifted to Chandigarh in 1954/1955 and was called as the High Court of Punjab, with jurisdiction over Delhi through a Circuit Bench.
The present Delhi High Court was established on 31st October 1966 because of the importance of Delhi as the National Capital and its growing population by an Act of Parliament known as the Delhi High Court Act, 1966.
