The Bhavnagar peninsular district is a part of the southeastern part of Gujarat state. This district’s administrative headquarters lie in the city of Bhavnagar.

The district extends over an area of 9940 kilometer square. On the north the district is bounded by Surendranagar and Ahmedabad, Gulf of Cambay to the south and east and to the west by Rajkot.

This district has become an essential industrial hub due to its proximity with business districts of Surendranagar, Rajkot, Amreli and Ahmedabad. The chief rivers flowing through the district are Kalundhar, Ranghola and Shetrunji.

The district of Bhavnagar can be accredited to the existence of a huge number of marine and salt chemicals, breaking, ship building, plastics, diamond cutting as well as polishing industries. In India, Bhavnagar is ranked after Surat in terms of diamond cutting as well as polishing industries. It also stands third in the production of salt.

Many people of the society depend upon agriculture to earn their living. The chief crops of the Bhavnagar district are chiku, banana, guava, onion and citrus. The district has been the second largest producer of cotton in Gujarat state after Rajkot. The area has a good communication due to the presence of a great transportation system.
