Fatehpur is one of the districts out of 71 districts of the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. This district engrosses an area of about 4,152 km. It is regarded as headquarters of administration of district. It is situated on the embankments of Ganga as well as Yamuna, the sacred rivers. The Asani and Bhitaura ghats were declared as sacred as per the Puranas. There is a site of sage Bhirgu, called as Bhitaura, which is a prominent source of learning. The district Fatehpur is a part of division of Allahabad.

The district is located between two major cities, Allahabad called as "Prayag", and Kanpur of Uttar Pradesh. The city of Fatehpur is quite well connected with these cities through the network of trains as well as roads. Allahabad is 117 km away from Fatehpur whereas Kanpur is just 76 km away. The northern part of Fatehpur district has been limited by Ganges River whereas Yamuna lies at the southern parts of Yamuna river.

During the times of Vedic era, it is called as "Antardesh", meaning, fertile area which lies between the two rivers. Later on, it was called as "Madhyadesh" meaning the central region. There is Avadhi culture which has its influence on the people out there.
