Sorab came from the name soraba which is a panchayat town in shimoga district of Karnataka state. The earlier name of this town sorab is surabhipura which means a town of surabhi. The history of surabhi is believed that surabhi is a holy cow that used to give milk on a stone statue of the god sri ranganatha and a temple is constructed on the same place where the cow used to give the milk and the place is now known as temple of sri ranganatha and history says that the temple is built on a river called dandavathi and the temple is built by a local landlord on the river. Sorab is a taluk headquarters now with all the basic facilities available in it and the main road in sorab has all the shops and hospitals in it. Sorab is the nearest town for many villages and it is the taluk headquarters. This place is famous for the temple and the center from nearby villages.
