The tehsil of Chhapra is the headquarter of the district of Saran in the state of Bihar in India. It is also called Chapra and is located nearby the intersection of the two rivers of Ganges and Ghaghara. It was an important city because the English, Portuguese, French and Dutch established the refineries of saltpeter in the area. Chapra became a municipality in the tear 1864. This tehsil has the chief road and rail connections with other parts of India. According to the census of 2011 the population of Chapra is 212,955. The River Gandak forms the separating line between the districts of Muzaffarpur and Vaishali in the eastern part.
