Palakonda is also known as Palkonda is a Mandal and town situated in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh, India, it is also a revenue division. The border of this mandal consists of Veeraghattam, Seethampeta, Burja and Regidi Amadalavalasa of the same district. The location of Palakonda is 18.6000N 83.7500E and the average elevation of this town is 44 meters or 147 feet. Nagavali River is used to cultivate the land. 56 square miles is the Agency area of Reserved Forests. In 1891, the population of this town was 201,331 and in 1901 it was 215,376. The population of the agency area was 11000 and they were mainly Savaras residing in 106 villages. This town was under Ganjam district until 1950 it was brought under Srikakulam district. The Area Hospital with 100 in-patients beds is situated at Palakonda and it serves the people of the town and the adjoining villages. This town is renowned for it religious places and it has two churches and temples. The names of the temples are Jagannadha Swami Alayam and Kotadurga Alayam. Palakonda also has four film theaters namely Sri Venkateswara, Sri Ramakala Mandir, Sri Anjaneya and Sri Venkata Gowri Theater. 35 village panchayats form Palakonda Mandal. |
