Papanasam is a panchayat town in Thanjavur district of the Tamil Nadu in India. The town is 15 kilometre from Kumbakonam & 25 kilometre fromTanjore. Three rivers named Cauvery, Thirumalairajan and KudaMurutti are there. Papanasam taluk is panchayat city of Thanjavur District in Tamil Nadu. Papanasam has an average literacy ofvery high 76% against national average literacy rate 59.5%. There 70% females & 82% males are literate. When 11% of the total population is children under 6 years of age. The Pallaivantha Swamy and 108 Sivalayam are two temples in Papanasam. One of them Pallaivanatha temple built by the Chola King. Papanasam assembly constituency isthe part of Mayiladuturai. 86 feetin width & 36 feet in height with a capacity of 3,000 kalam a Granary also situtated there. Which is declared monument by Archeological Department of the Tamil Nadu State. Which was built by Nayaks between 1600- 1634. Papanasam station is the only station between Thanjavur and Kumbakonam. Here all passenger and express trains are stop.
