Paramakudi  is a municipality in Ramanathapuram  Tamil Nadu. The river Vaigai flows through this town joining the Bay of Bengal. The Political & Revenue headquarters of Ramanathapuram district are also located here. Except the northwestern part, most of the area is covered by the unconsolidated residue of Quaternary age and in the northwest part isolated patches of Archaen Crystallines & Tertiary sandstone are exposed. The Tertiary sandstone comprise yellowish, pinkish, reddish medium to common grained sandstone & clay stone. It is exposed towards north of Vaigai River and overlain by thin alluvium. Detached coverage of laterite & lateritic soil are found in the northwest part of this district. Coastal plain deposits of sand & clay forms the marine side. It is an important commercial center. Cotton & chili peppers are the main crops that are cultivated here.Other agricultural chases include bananas , rice, and market gardening. The Chitra Festival is held yearly here. This festival is celebrated on account of a visit by Thirumal to the Vaigai River around the month of May . The celebration spans 10 days. Panguni festival is other important festival of this place. The festival is taken place in Sri Muthalamman Temple and the main deity of this place is Goddess Sri Muthalamman , the festival is held in the month of march and april every year.
