Mettupalayam is a tehsil of Coimbatore district of Tamilnadu, India. It is sited at the bottom of the Nilgiri hills. Mettupalayam is the third largest Township in Coimbatore district and the rapid growing place in the northern side of Coimbatore. The tehsil has an average elevation of 314 meters. Mettupalayam is located on the pool of Bhavani river and at the bottom of Nilgiri mountains. According to the 2001 census, the tehsil has an average literacy rate, higher than the national average rate. There are a large number of Tamil and Kannada spoken people. But the Kannada,spoken here is very different from the language spoken in Karnataka. Because it is a very old form of the language. The major population of this tehsil belongs to Gowda community.

Vana Bathrakali Amman Kovil, Idugampalayam Aanjineyar temple, Subramaniya swamy temple,Kurunthamalai Bala Thandayudapani Murugan Kovil, Kumaran Kundru Murugan Kovil,Shri Madheswara Temple in Annadasampalayam,Karamadai Ranganadhar Kovil all are the famous temples located near the tehsil. Besides, Black thunder is a water park which attracts many tourists. Mettupalayam is a railway junction in Coimbatore. The tehsil is famous for its Ooty train Nilgiri Passenger, the only rack and pinion railway in Asia. Coimbatore is around 38 kms away from Mettupalayam. The nearest airport is Coimbatore International airport. Mettupalayam is connected to National Highway 67.
