Venkatagiri tehsil is located in the district of Nellore in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India. The mandal headquarters is located in the town of Venkatagiri itself, which is also a municipality. The place was earlier known by its old name Kali Mili and was having a rich heritage of Handloom cotton sarees. The tehsil was earlier included in the region of a kingdom of Velugodu, which is also having some descendants in the post independence days, the coronation being finally passed over in 2010.

The tehsil is having Nellore at a distance of 68 kms and the 397 kms from the city of Hyderabad. Venkatagiri mandal is having an average elevation of about 60 mts and the coordinates are 13.9667N 79.5833E. The population of the mandal was 75,236 in the year 2001 census and consisted of about 58 revenue villages. International airport nearest to the tehsil is in Chennai at about 170 kms distance. A new airport is being constructed in Renigunta at 45 kms away. Gudur junction is the nearest railway station and reaching the tehsil is possible by road and rail communication. Although the NH-5 is not connecting this tehsil, there are other ways, primarily the one going from Tirupati to Nellore. Taxis and autorickshaws are available for transportation in the tehsil, apart from the APSRTC buses, which goes to most of the villages under Venkatagiri tehsil. There are also direct buses from the headquarter town of Venkatagiri to Bengaluru. Venkatagiri is one of the assembly constituencies of the state, which falls under Tirupati lok sabha constituency.
