Birbhum is a popular tehsil located in the Birbhum district in the state of West Bengal in India. The shape of the tehsil is just like an isosceles triangle. River Ganges and Ajay meander through this tehsil. The rivers not only augment the beauty of the place but also making the soil fertile. Santhal Parganas, Murshidabad and Burdwan are also located close to this place. The place is drained by many rivers and this enhances the crop production in this area. Dry and mild climate is experienced by this place. June to October, rainy season continues. This place is believed to have been visited by Lord Mahaveera. This place was also ruled by Mauryans. Later on the rule of this place passed through many hands and ultimately came under the control of East India Company.

This tehsil is also referred to as the land of red soil. The place is not only known for its cultural heritage but also its unique topography.
