Vaisakhi

Vaisakhi mainly known as Baisakhi in few places is a festival rejoiced in the northern part of India by the Sikh society. The festival of Vaisakhi is in the remembrance of Khalsa which was initiated by the gurus of Sikh. Vaisakhi is also a significant day in the year 1966 in which Guru Gobind Singh initiated Panth Khalsa which means the instruction of the innocence.

The day of Vaisakhi is also celebrated as the day of Thanksgiving and blessing by the agriculturists and farmers. On the day of Vaisakhi, farmers pay their honour and praise to God for plentiful produce and also requesting in form of prayer in future wealth and prosperity.Vaisakhi is one of the main festival celebrated with full of fun in northern side of India.

History

Vaisakhi is ideally celebrated on 13th April and at times on 14th April depending on the location. Main celebration of Vaisakhi takes place in Talwandi Sabo the place where Guru Gobind Singh lived for nine months and also finished the script of Guru Granth Sahib, In Anandpur Gurudwara, and in Golden Temple where Khalsa was created.Vaisakhi is globally celebrated by Sikh community and few places in Lahore. Thousands of Pilgrims and devotees gathers at the holy place of Nankana Sahib

It is a new year for Hindus on the day of Vaisakhi. As per the belief thousands of years ago Idol Ganga inclined to earth, in the honour of Goddess Ganga many Hindu community collected on the river Ganga for ceremonial bath. Festival is celebrated in many sacred cities including Jammu, Srinagar and Madras. In kerala they call this day as Vishu. In Assam it is known as Bohag Bihu.

Buddish call this festiva as Vesak it is the day of awakening and enlightening passed by Gautam Budha.

Celebrations & Rituals

Vaisakhi is a festival full of fun and is celebrated globally by the Sikh community. To sign the celebration people visit gurudwara to attend special prayer, they offer flowers at gurudwara. Special lungar a free special meal is offered to the visitors in gurudwara prepared by the khalsa members.

Processions and Parades are common on the day of Vaisakhi.

Many Sikh communities were also migrated United States, Major celebration takes place in Manhattan and Newyork. Many people come out in the procession offering free food and also performing some labour work by helping others. In Los Angeles Gurudwaras arrange special spiritual prayer in which around 1500 people participates.

Largest amount of Sikh community are situated in Birmingham London. Birmigham city council organise a special spiritual music known as Kirtan. A special fair is organised along with the Kirtan in which almost one lac people participate.
