Christmas Day
Christmas is celebrated by the Christian community. Christmas means Christ Mass; it is a yearly remembrance of the birthday of Jesus. Christmas is celebrate in 25h December and is global holiday. It is also a day of feast and ends of the liturgical year a calendar of Christian community and initiates the next season. Christmas is celebrated with most number of people including non-Christians and is the essential part of the holiday season.
History
According to the prevalent customs birth of Jesus took place in stable fully surrounded by animals. As mentioned in Bible Mary wrapped Jesus cuddly clothes and placed him in Feeding box as there were no rooms to stay. The news of Jesus birth were first given to Shepherds by angels and they were first to be seen Jesus as child. As per the customs three kings visited Jesus including Casper, Balthazar and Melchior. Later family was visited by many other relatives who bought Jesus many gifts. Visitors believed him as a birth of rising star and visualised him as a next king of Jews.
Celebrations & Rituals
Christmas is celebrated in many ways. It is also a holiday across the world. All the people from Christian community visit church a night for Mass and also in the morning as a service to church. As a renowned tradition and customs in some Christian families children’s enacts the birth of Jesus with animals to depict the scenario to get the realism. Children also sing hymns and carol in reference to the event.
As per the customs painted portrayals of animals, Mary, Joseph, Shepherds, Three kings and Child Jesus is decorated on stable made of hay which depicts the entire story is known as Nativity of art is set up in the homes and churches.
On the Christmas day as per the customs many families and church decorate Christmas tree. It is a tradition to put the decorated Christmas tree in the house on the day of Christmas. Christmas tress is decorated with holms, bays, ivy and other decorated items available during the season. It is believed the heart shaped leave of ivy is a symbol of Jesus arriving on earth. It is also believe the plant Holly protects them against witches and the thorns and berries represents the crest of thorns which was worn by Jesus at the time of execution.
Traditionally colours of Christmas indicates Green, Red and golden in which Red colour represent the blood of Jesus, Green colour represent everlasting life in specific the evergreen tree which never shreds the leaf in any season, Gold represents loyalty. The tradition of decorating Christmas tress is followed across the country. Sideways with the Christmas tree families also decorate their home beautiful lights with beautiful decorated Christmas tree as a display.
Other customary of Christmas includes decorating the rooms with candles, stockings, bells, angels. It is believed to be a good omen to display garland and angel in each window. There is a belief that lighting a candle in each window represents the fact that Jesus Christ is last light of the world.
Apart from home Christmas trees are decorated in the malls, restaurants, and street. Lovely Christmas carol and songs are put loud to generate festivity mood.
Families also prepare traditional Christmas sweets includes Fruit cake, Christmas pie, pudding, chocolates are distributed among friends and relatives. Christmas cards are sent across to the native and families faraway.
As a customary a special Christmas meal is prepared and is main part of the Christmas day. Every country has the variety of the preparation of the Christmas meal. This Christmas meal is shared on the eve of Christmas with the entire family which spreads joy and happiness.
Exchanging gifts are auspicious on the day of Christmas. Children’s hangs stocking in the room with the belief that Santa Claus will keep a secret gift in the stockings.
