Maharishi Parasuram Jayanti
Maharishi Parasuram is the sixth Avatar of Lord Vishnu as per mythology, who was known to be an angry but highly principled person, born to Rishi Jamadagni and Renukadevi, having an ire towards Kshatriya community a revengeful feeling he had developed because a king from that community killed his father, whose name is more popular in Kerala and Konkan regions. His birthday falls on third day of Shukla Paksha that is brightening phase of moon, in the month of Vaishakh in Hindu almanac, falling around the month of May as per English Calendar, which is celebrated as Parasuram Jayanthi.
This particular day is also known as Akshaya Tritiya, which day is considered well for commencing auspicious things, particularly for acquiring things of possession like Gold ornaments.
Besides that, this very day is also known to be the day when Ved Vyas commenced writing the great Epic Mahabharat, legends conveying that Lord Ganesha himself sat writing the epic as the Rishi dictated.
Parasuram Jayanthi day is also referred as Akha Teej day apart from Akshaya Tritiya day.
History
It would be relevant to know Parashuram’s story as found in mythological literature, which is as follows
Parashuram’s father Rishi Jamadagni had a household cow called Kama Dhenu which was capable of feeding any number of people when time demands. The Kshatriya king called Kartavirya Sahashrarjun wanted to acquire this cow and when the Rishi refused to part with it, the Rishi and also the Cow were killed by that Kshatriya king. Upon this, Parshuram vowed to kill all the Kshatriya on this earth and liberate people from the clutches of Kshatriya.  Fearing Parasuram, all the Kshatriya fled away from earth, leaving it totally unprotected. Saint Ashyap in order to keep the earth safe obtained a promise from Parshuram that he would not stay in the world during night times and in compliance with that Parshuram went to Mahendra mount to settle down there.
Hindu devotees have faith that by keeping fast this day would bring them all princely comforts and also those who pray Parasuram on this day would be blessed with a Son as their progeny, as these message comes from VarahPuran.

1. The temple at Thiruvallam, which is located near Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, from which place it is believed that Maharishi Parasuram hurled his axe into Arabian Sea to protect Kerala.
2. The lake Parasurama Kunda in the Tirap District of Arunachal Pradesh, where Maharishi Parasuram washed his sins after he killed his mother upon the orders of his father.
