Guru Gobind Singh Ji Gurpurab
Guru Gobind Singh Ji is also acknowledged as Gobind Rai was born on 22nd December 1966. He was the main pundit guru of the Sikh society and the eleventh guru is recognised as Guru Granth Saheb. Guru Gobind Singh Ji was the warrior, composer and thinker. He flourished his father Guru Tej Bahadur as the leader of Sikh community at a very young age. At the age of 9 he added a lot to the Sikh community, prominent contribution was the continuous solemnization of belief and conviction to the Sikh community which was originated by Guru Nanak as a religion Sikh in 15th century.
History
Guru Gobind Singh Ji was born and bought up in Patna, Bihar but later he shifted his base in Poanta in Sirmur. As per the gazetteer Guru Gobind Singh Ji was asked to shift his base from Anandpur Sahib in Punjab due to some rift with Bhim Chand and he shifted to Toka. Guru Gobind Singh Ji was invited by Prakash Mat to Poanta to reinforce his spot against Raja Fateh Shah in Garhwal. Guru Gobind Singh Ji stayed in Paonta for three years and constructed a fort with the help of other supporters. The rift between the Rajas caused a combat of Bhangnani, The battle closed with the success of Guru Gobind Singh Ji he visited different military chief and later on the request of Chakk Nanaki he returned back to Anandpur Sahib.
On the day of Vaisakhi Guru Gobind Singh Ji sent a letter of authority to his supporters to assemble for a meeting in which he got acknowledged from his supporters for his recognition as Sikh and Guru. He asked for the sacrifice of head from his followers and after the sacrifice these followers were recognised as Panj Pyare and were known to be the first Sikh of Khalsa which is a co-operative body of Sikh community.
Wahe guru ji da khalsa, wahe guru ji di fateh is the loud chanting of the Sikh community which is represented by Khalsa. Guru Gobind Singh Ji later christened all the followers as Singh. Being the sixth member of the sikh community and people use to started calling him as Guru Gobind Singh. Today supporters of Khalsa consider Guru Gobind singh as a father figure. Women’s in the group were started recognised as Kaur. Khalsa community believe that they are neither Hindu nor Muslim, No pilgrimage, No purdah system for women’s, respecting women, no dowry for women’s and they fought for women burning alive for dowry.
Guru Gobind Singh Ji later fought for the right of Khalsa with Raja’s situated in Shivalik hill which was known as a Battle of Anandpur. Mughal army also attached Guru’s, the main chief of Aurangzeb attached Guru’s camp and told Guru to evacuate Anandpur for which Guru denied. With lot of controversies and battled against the Mughal and khans in the final days Guru was attacked by Jamshed Khan. Foreseeing his end Guru Gobind Singh Ji announced Guru Granth Saheb as his succeeding Guru.
Guru Gobind Singh Ji gave Sikhs a respectable life, the uncut hair, the bangle, the sword and the dastar.
Celebrations & Rituals
Guru Gobind Singh Ji birthday is a day of Feast also known as Gurpurab is one of the festival in Sikh community. It is a spiritual festival in which the prayer is offered in the name of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
It is long festival taken place in most of the north city. The large procession takes place outside golden temple in Amritsar; people share sweets and cold drinks during the march. At some places special gathering and prayers are perform in Gurudwara.
Stories in form of recitation is mainly sung by the gurus in Gurudwara special meal is prepared in Gurudwara known as Gurupurab in which roti, dal, sabzi and salad is served as Prasad to all the members visiting in Gurudwara.
