It is a town as well as municipal board lying in Auraiya district, which is part of one of the largest Indian states, Uttar Pradesh. Auraiya is well-known headquarter. The longitudes and latitudes of this town are 78 45" and 79 45" east and 26 21" and 27 01" north respectively. It is surrounded by Kannauj district on the north. The western border of Auraiya is adjacent to Bharthana tehsil, which belongs to Etawah district. Two tehsils, Bidhuna and Auraiya were taken away from Etawah district for the formation new district, Auraiya. This town is located on Mughal road and lies at a distance of 64 km and 105 km from headquarter of Etawah and Kanpur city respectively. The airport of Kanpur is the nearest to Auraiya. According to the Indian census of 2001, the population of this town is about 64,598. Males and females constitute 53% and 47% respectively. The average literacy rate of this town is 71%, which is greater than the average literacy rate of India, 59.5%. The literacy rate between males and females are 56% and 44% respectively. The population below the age of six years constitutes about 15%. The main items of trade of this town are food grains and Ghee. Educationally, this town is highly developed.
