Few words about STD Codes in India:
In the year "1993", "National Numbering Plan" was last analyzed. This plan covered various telephonic services, which were "Mobile Phones", "Pagers" etc. The review in the year of 1993 "Numbering Plan" was not of any help to the telephone and mobile users. Review of this plan could not help either existing members of new members. It was realized later that reviewing or revising the "National Number Plan" was of no use at all. Realization of revising the existing plans to something new was thought of later when revised plan was not working. Need of revising these plans were important, as new private players had entered the telecom market. In the year 1993, when revision of "National Numbering Plan" was done, there were no private players in the market or rather just a few to name. This revision was done when there were no fancy services or internet in the nation.
STD codes or better known as "Subscriber Dialing Codes" are provided to each place in India. It is the metro cities that have are having the shortest code number and then the main telephone numbers.
